HISTORY FAIRE AT THE FARM FAIR - 2011

Wednesday, July 20 through Saturday, July 23, 2011

Farm Fair Gets a Taste of History

To help celebrate the return of the Burlington County Farm Fair to Springfield Township, the Springfield Historical Society and the Office of the Burlington County Historian are hosting a “History Faire at the County Fair.” Each day of the festivities scheduled for July 20 to 23 at the new county fairgrounds at Route 206 and Jacksonville-Jobstown Road, visitors will be able to stop by the “History Faire Tent” to learn about the County’s past.
Representatives for the Springfield Historical Society suggested the new attraction after learning the annual farm fair would relocate this year. Records show the fair was originally held in Springfield before settling in Lumberton Township, where it was held for many years. Every local historical society in the County has been invited to set up an information table in the new History Faire Tent and have representatives share their knowledge with residents.
In honor of the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War, a special emphasis will be placed on each community’s response to defend the Union during the Civil War. County Historian Joe Laufer has gathered information for a presentation about the County’s extensive Civil War involvement. Civil
War re-enactors will also make periodic appearances.
Local historical societies, re-enactors and residents with personal Civil War connections are encouraged to contact Laufer at the Burlington County Library at (609) 267-9660, ext. 5020, or Richard Toone, President of the Springfield Historical Society at (609) 261-3415. Additional information about the History Faire will be available closer to the event at www.burlcohistorian.com
