Commemorating Burlington County's Role in the Civil War

150 Years Later

New Views X will focus on the Sesquicentennial of the Civl War in Burlington County. The tour will take place on Saturday, May 21 beginning at 8:45 a.m. at Smithville Park. The tour is limited to 50 people and will be narrated by County Historian, Joseph Laufer, assisted by Historian Paul W. Schopp. Cost per person is $45.00. Checks should be made out to the "Friends of the Burlington County Library." The price includes the cost of a box lunch which will be served at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Beverly. Estimated completion of the tour will be at 3:30 p.m. Mail checks, with name, address, phone and e-mail address to: Civil War Tour, Burlington County Library, 5 Pioneer Boulevard, Westampton, NJ 08060. First come, first served. Menu choices will be sent with confirmation. TOUR COMPLETELY FILLED AS OF APRIL 15. Possibility of a repeat tour in October. Reserve your place now.

  1. John Woolman Memorial – Attitudes towards Slavery before the war
  2. Washington St.: Sacred Heart Church; Mt. Moriah Church

B. Westampton

  1. Timbuctoo – Black Vets Burial Place; story of fugitives living in the county

C. Burlington City

  1. Burlington County Historical Society - Civil War Exhibit
  2. Location of Camden & Amboy Station
  3. U.S. Grant House, Wood Street – Grant family refuge
  4. Grubb Family residences - NJ 23rd Yahoos
  5. Waterfront
  6. Bethlehem AME Church and Vets Cemetery
  7. Wall Mansion (James Wall - Copperhead)
  8. Quaker Meeting House

D. Edgewater Park (a.)
